Microsoft Kinect Available November 4th, Will Launch with 15 Games

Microsoft told the media today at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) that the Kinect motion sensing product will be available November 14th, and should be launching with at least 15 games out of the gate. The company however, did not mention how much Kinect will sell for as a stand-alone product, but analysts are putting the price tag around $50-200 depending on the package, and what’s included.

Microsoft also announced a new Xbox 360 console which is supposed to be more compact and which includes a 250Gb hard drive, 802.11n WiFi and Kinect ready support. The new game console will be priced at $299 and will be available Monday, June 21st.

The Jury is still out on whether Kinect (previously called Project Natal) will be able to compete with the likes of the Nintendo Wii and Sony Playstation Move products, but Microsoft is changing gears and targeting the very same consumer that the aforementioned products are aimed at; casual players and newcomers – not hardcore gamers.

Xbox finally gets its own VR headset, sort of

Microsoft and Meta have collaborated on a special edition VR headset, the Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition. The limited edition bundle, which includes a black and green headset alongside matching accessories, is on sale now for $400.

While the collaboration is a first for Meta, it's part of an emerging trend for the Xbox brand. Earlier this month, Microsoft partnered with Asus to create a new version of its ROG Ally designed around Xbox Game Pass. The Meta Quest 3S follows that same trend, with a custom visual treatment and more direct integration into the Game Pass ecosystem and its cloud streaming feature.

This year's Game of the Year race has a new contender. Death Stranding 2: On The Beach launches this year and it's earning high marks from critics who largely seem to agree that it fully realizes its predecessor's vision. To celebrate, Hideo Kojima's latest is getting its own custom DualSense controller. If you're curious as to what it looks like, allow me to give you a full tour.

Design wise, this is your typical PS5 controller so don't expect to find a BB hanging from its backside. It features an all-black color scheme that's more or less identical to the Midnight Black DualSense that's available for $10 less. The extra cash goes towards a few custom touches meant to tie it into Death Stranding 2.
