Microsoft makes it easier to switch between some games on Xbox Cloud Gaming

Microsoft has just unveiled a bunch of gaming-related updates, and while they seem like rather small tweaks, they could be helpful for Xbox gamers who don’t play on the actual console. The TL;DR includes a cleaner Game Bar UI, Game Pass benefits, and a way to seamlessly shift in and out of games using Xbox Cloud Gaming. Let’s dig in.

First, perhaps my favorite of all the announcements: Microsoft has made it easier to switch from one game to another in Xbox Cloud Gaming. Unfortunately, this only concerns Assassin’s Creed games so far, such as Assassin’s Creed Shadows — but it’s still pretty cool.

Prior to the update, you’d need to go back to the Xbox homepage to launch a new game. Now, games can be launched directly from the same window, without having to go back. It’s a small change, but could prove to be a great quality-of-life update for gamers. The best part is that Microsoft says it’ll be rolling out in other cloud-playable games “soon,” so it’s not going to be all Assassin’s Creed forever.

Speaking of games you can play in the cloud, Microsoft added new titles to the list of games you can play on supported devices (if you own them, that is). This includes Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Gotham Knights, but also Party Animals, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and Wobbly Life. More games are coming soon, including Raft, which is one of my favorite survival games to date.

Next, Microsoft’s Game Bar has a whole new look, and it’s only the beginning — the company says that several visual enhancements will roll out this week. Game Bar now has a refreshed design with various widgets, including the Home Bar and separate widgets for resources, capturing gameplay, and performance tracking.

Lastly, if you’re using the Xbox Game Pass, you’ll be eligible for some free goodies as part of your subscription. This applies to free-to-play games and includes cosmetics, in-game currency, and other fun stuff in titles like Heroes of the Storm or Naraka: Bladepoint.

Depending on where you live, we're all somewhere in the process of fully transitioning into the Spring season. Flowers are budding, the sun is shining, and fantastic games are coming to Game Pass, giving you a strong reason to stay inside all weekend. This weekend is the most exciting of the month, thanks to one specific day-one game we're sure you're excited for, but if RPGs aren't your thing, we have plenty of other options that are perfect for the warm weather. May is going to be another big month for upcoming Xbox Series X games on Game Pass, with Doom: The Dark Ages in particular looming on the horizon. Until then, these are the best games to play on Game Pass this weekend.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows appears to have been rated for the Nintendo Switch 2

The Pan European Game Information website, better known as PEGI, just rated Assassin's Creed Shadows for the Nintendo Switch 2 — and that's a pretty solid indication the game could make its way to the console either at or after its June 5 launch. That said, it's also possible that someone simply clicked the wrong checkbox on the backend of the site and that Ubisoft has no intention of porting the game to the Switch 2, so take this with a grain of salt.

PEGI is basically the European version of the ESRB, responsible for suggesting the appropriate target age for a game. If you go to the specific page for Assassin's Creed Shadows, it doesn't list the Nintendo Switch 2, but if you look at the "Most Searched Games" subhead, it shows up there.

3 new Xbox Game Pass games to play this weekend (April 18-20)

Last week was a major one in terms of big day one Game Pass games, and next week is arguably even bigger with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 joining the service. But there are way more titles joining the catalog besides that one upcoming Xbox Series X game, and this is the perfect time to give some smaller, lesser-known games a chance. We're not going to burden you with a massive RPG that you won't be able to finish before Expedition, but a smattering of smaller titles that are the perfect size to give you a weekend of fun before wrapping up. Why not try something a little out of the ordinary this weekend with one of these games?
