You can now use an external webcam with Microsoft Teams on your iPad. Here’s how
Home screen layout of the 2024 iPad mini.

For a lot of people, the iPad is the device they choose to work with, which may include taking video calls. Though the front-facing camera on iPads has gotten better over time, many still prefer external webcams because they’re often much better than the built-in webcam on your tablet or even laptop. And now, if you use Microsoft Teams on iPad, you’re finally able to use external cameras, as Microsoft has announced via a blog post.

When we say "finally," it’s because Apple has included support for external USB-C cameras on the iPad since iPadOS 17. So technically, Microsoft is a little late to the party with this feature. But if you have to use Microsoft Teams for work and you tend to use the iPad most of the time, then this is certainly welcome news.

Google Photos just got its own 2024 year in review. Here’s how to find it
Google Photos' year in review feature for 2024.

Which were your favorite photos taken this year? Rather than going through 12 months of your photo library, Google Photos is making it easier with a new end-of-year feature.  These special recaps are located at the top of the app’s main page through the featured memories carousel on both the iOS and Android Google Photos apps.

As Google explains, the year-in-review tool provides a personalized look at your year through your photos. It includes several categories to highlight different aspects of your year: "Longest streak" shows your longest consecutive days of taking pictures. "Year in smiles" counts the total smiles captured and identifies who you smile with the most. "Your top faces" reveals the people who appeared most frequently in your photos.

Google Messages is one of the most popular messaging platforms on the planet — so popular, in fact, that companies like Samsung and Verizon are doing away with their in-house messaging apps in favor of it. More than 1 billion users engage with Google Messages monthly, and a large part of the experience is RCS. We've been eagerly looking forward to the introduction of quality control when sending photos, a feature first spotted earlier this month.

Now, Google Messages has begun rolling out the "original quality" media-sharing feature, as noted by Android Authority. For now, it's only available in the beta, but that's a firm sign that all users will be receiving it shortly.
